Household chores can be a real bore and along with cleaning, ironing etc. the last thing you want to have to do is regularly repaint or repair your front door, but you have no choice with certain door types.
Composite doors thankfully don’t come into that category. They’re practically maintenance-free with the little bit of upkeep they need being quick and easy to do. We find that a good proportion of our customers buy our composite doors for that exact reason.
After having a door from Essex Composite Door Shop installed by one of our fantastic fitting teams, maintenance will only be an occasional job, and these three tasks should be enough to keep it looking and working fine:
Soak a soft sponge in warm soapy water or washing up liquid, and use it to wash away any build-up of dirt on the door frame and any door panels. Once done, use a soft lint free cloth to dry the surface.
Please don’t apply any harsh chemicals or solvents to the outer door skin as they can permanently damage it, and only use a traditional glass cleaner to bring the sheen back to any glazed sections.
To polish up any non-stainless-steel hardware affixed to the door e.g. handles, letterplates, knockers, hinges, use a soft cloth and warm soapy water, or alternatives such as washing up liquid or car shampoo.
Again, avoid using any harsh chemicals or solvents to prevent irreversible damage being caused to the hardware.
Any moving parts in the door only need to be lubricated once a year to keep the door opening smoothly.
Open the door and squirt some 3 in 1 oil or silicon spray through the hook and latch gaps. The same lubricant can be used for the hinges, and you’re also welcome to add a touch of grease to the hooks, latch and deadbolt faces.
Manoeuvre the handle up and down several times to let the lubricant fully work its way through.
And that’s it! Just a little bit of maintenance goes a long way with our composite door range. If you want a door to die for, ask us for a FREE quote.
